October finally arrived and brought Riders in the Sky back to the Emery; the water had arrived and us saddle pals was thirsty! To the delight of all the polkaholics, the usually quiet CowPolka King took center stage during the warm-up to sing "You Call Everybody Darlin'." Special guest on Tuesday night was living legend Patsy Montana; the "special" in special guest was never more appropriate! America's "Cowboy Sweetheart" still sings and yodels right up there with the best of 'em. Patsy brought down the shouse when she sang "I Want to Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart." She's a true American clasic. Episode 4 of Monster from Mystery Mountain was her telling spooky stories to the good citizens of Tumbleweed Valley.
On Wednesday night, Joey stepped up to the mic again during the warm-up, this time to sing "Just Because." Special guest was John McEwen, currently pursuing a solo career after spending many years with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. John is the kid of musician you listen to and end up wondering why some people get all the talent. He made the banjo do things I never knew a banjo could do before. McEwen was absolutely incredible. Oh, yeah...he was funny too, which threw the door open to another evening of ad libbing, missed cues, and a sojurn into the twilight zone during the Woody Paul Western Theme #31.
While I am sure none of the International Buckaroos and Buckarettes ever miss Rider's Radio Theater unless it's a real emergency, don't miss any of these four episodes, not even for an emergency!
I'll catch ya on down the trail! 'Til donna j rides your way once again:
So long saddlepals! It's been so good to see ya...
