Riders' Radio Theater @ The Emery Theater

The second week of June brought an extra-special treat for Riders in the Sky in the "Queen City of the West: Cincinnati, Ohio"! Monday and Tuesday evenings found Riders in the Sky at the historic Emery Theater for the regular tapings of Riders' Radio Theater.

Monday night program highlights included episodes 8 and 9 of Rocket Rustlers (the newest yarn to be spun in the continuing saga of The Cowboy Way), and special guests Robin and Linda Williams. Tuesday night brought us episodes 10 and 11 of  Rocket Rustlers, and special guests Muzzy Braun and the Boys, and, as a special
treat, Rebecca Chrisman performed "I Want to Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart." Jamie [Amos, president of the fan club at the time] and several members of the International Buckaroo Club came up to Cincinnati on Tuesday night. They met with several of the Cincinnati members (and one die-hard from Columbus). All in all, Tuesday night was a very special night.

The only bad thing from Monday and Tuesday was the absence of Joey (the CowPolka King) from the  tapings. The "Sultan of the Stomach Steinway" had prior committments and was unable to make the tapings. Not to worry...the vacant orchestra leader's spot was filled by "The Lone Accordion Player," Jay Spell.

Member's Night at the Cincinnati Zoo

On Wednesday, the evening air was filled with the best in western music, live and direct from the Peacock Pavilion of the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens. The men of the Harmony Ranch rolled up their sleeves and did what they do best: Put on a show! This time the show was for zoo members only, but of course the International Buckaroo Club members were on hand too. There was trick roping, trick yodeling, and of course, varmint dancing. Rebecca again sang "Cowboy's Sweetheart," but his time she ended the song with a very special yodel she invented
herself. I predict that it won't be long before she has her own fan club!

When Slim asked the kids in the audience to ome up on stage to help out with "I'm Going to Leave Old Texas Now," he was quickly inundated with children; they overflowed from the stage into the aisles and back into the audience. A highlight of the show was the "Too Slim Look-alike" contest. The little saddle pal who won the contest came complete with mustache and life-sized cardboard string bass.

As always, Riders in the Sky stayed after the show to sign autographs and visit with their fans. They stayed until the last autograph was signed and the last picture was taken. Giving so much to your fans isn't the easy way...it's the Cowboy Way!

I'll catch ya on down the trail! 'Til donna j rides your way once again:

So long saddlepals! It's been so good to see ya...
